Cycling & Bike Holidays in the Dolomites

Around and about on two wheels...

Get on your bicycle, strap on a helmet and off you go! You forget everything else – there are only your two wheels and yourself, together in harmony. Adrenaline kicks in and your pulse speeds up, your skin tingles with the thrill, and you feel a great sense of joy and satisfaction:

your cycling holiday in the Dolomites has begun at last!

Unpaved roads leading down through the woods, hairpin bends, and paths skirting fields and leading up to the peaks and back down to the valley - and all the while the mountains remain within your sight. You are in the company of friends or strangers who share your passion, or maybe you are by yourself. You can follow paths either downhill or steeply uphill or, for a change, go for a pleasant cycle along the marked routes. Do you wish to take your family, or discover your limits? The choice is yours! It is your cycling holiday in the Dolomites.

Cycling in Val Pusteria –
Hotel Emma's recommendations:

Dolomiti Superbike

Dolomiti Superbike:

the legendary "Dolomiti Superbike" race is a "must" for every mountain biker who wants to rise to the occasion and take on a real challenge. The adventure of your life begins directly outside our hotel in Villabassa: on your bicycle, you cover 113 kilometres through the Dolomites, going from Villabassa to Dobbiaco, San Candido Versciaco, Monte Elmo, Sesto, Monte Baranci, Carbonin, Prato Piazza and Braies and back to the starting point. Are you ready?

An outing for all the family:

the wild and romantic Rienza River, the artificial lake of Valdaora, an ice cream break in San Candido, a detour to the wood gnome park in Sillian, a mandatory stop at the fascinating Loacker's World in Heinfels, and then a comfortable train journey back to base, with your mind buzzing from so many new experiences.

These are just a few of the attractions of the cycle path in Val Pusteria known as the "Pusterbike", which extends for a total of 105 km from Rio Pusteria to Lienz in East Tyrol.

Cycle tour to the lakes of Puster Valley

Starting from Villabassa...

... in Casies Valley. This easy tour is along gentle winding trails and introduces you to the delights of this valley.

... via Dobbiaco to Cortina. You can cycle along the old tracks of the Dolomite railway through the Val di Landro Valley, passing the lake of Dobbiaco, the viewpoint of the Three Peaks and Lake Landro, to reach Cortina.

... in the Braies Valley and up to Prato Piazza. You cut through the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park and continue up to Prato Piazza, a plateau at 2,000 metres. There are alpine pastures all around, the peak of Vallandro to the left and the Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo to the right, and you are standing at the heart of this wonderful landscape: what more could you want?

For those who love adrenaline:

hairpin bends, jumps, bridges, a change in level of 1,300 metres and a distance of 8 km to be covered on two wheels - the challenging "Herrnsteig" Downhill Trail, which starts at the top of the Plan de Corones, is truly "The Legend" for all lovers of extreme sports. The other two trails are also beautiful: the Furcia Trail, which is the shortest, goes down to the Furcia Pass, while the Gassl Trail, a little longer at 8.6 km, involves less of a change in level.

the marathon for racing enthusiasts, with three different routes, attracts thousands of keen athletes and spectators every year. Those who succeed in joining (the number is limited) can ride along with 10,000 other cyclists up and down the famous dolomite passes.

Sella Ronda Bike Day:

on this special day, sport brings everyone together - enthusiasts, amateurs, Sunday cyclists and professionals. The Sella Ronda Bike Day is neither a competition nor a race against each other, but rather a great and spectacular day of cycling for women and men of all ages and levels of training.
